Azobe Hardwood – The Foundation of Every Product
All GorillaMatz products are manufactured exclusively from Azobe hardwood.
Azobe is internationally recognised for its exceptional mechanical performance and durability in the most demanding environments. With a Class 1 Durability Rating, it offers the highest natural resistance to moisture, rot, decay, and insect attack - without the need for chemical treatment.
Classified as Strength Class D70, Azobe delivers outstanding rigidity and load-bearing capability. Its naturally interlocked grain structure provides excellent resistance to splitting, while its high density makes it one of the few timber species capable of sinking in water. These characteristics make Azobe particularly well suited for use in waterlogged, boggy, or unstable ground conditions.
Below you will find the key technical properties of the Azobe timber used in all GorillaMatz products. The figures in the below table are mainly indicative, unless a specific standard is mentioned, which provides exact figures.
Crane Mats
Reliable Ground Support for Heavy Equipment.
GorillaMatz Crane Mats - also commonly referred to as bog mats, excavator mats, or access mats - are designed to provide a safe, stable, and durable working surface for heavy lifting and equipment operations.
Our crane mats are produced in a wide range of standard metric and imperial sizes, allowing for quick selection for most projects. In addition, we can manufacture custom dimensions to meet specific site or load requirements.
Our standard mat width is 1.0m and 1.2m (4 ft).
Azobe is a highly stable hardwood; however, as a natural material, minor dimensional variations may occur over time. This natural behaviour does not compromise structural integrity or performance.
All our crane mats are fitted with two steel-reinforced lifting points, allowing for quick and safe movements of the mat.
To extend service life and reduce handling damage, all GorillaMatz Crane Mats feature precision-milled 45-degree edges and corners.

We supply Jack-Up Beams in two material conditions:

Well-seasoned S4S (surfaced four sides) beams
For projects where precise dimensions and tight tolerances are critical, we recommend the well-seasoned S4S option. Where dimensional tolerances are less critical, unseasoned rough sawn beams provide a cost-effective and robust alternative.
Our standard sizes cover most typical applications, while custom dimensions can be supplied to meet specific project requirements.
Pipeline Skids

GorillaMatz Pipeline Skids are designed to support, protect, and evenly distribute loads during pipeline transport, storage, and installation.

For projects requiring high dimensional accuracy, S4S skids are the preferred solution. For applications where dimensional tolerance is acceptable, rough sawn skids offer a more economical option without compromising strength or durability.
